Columbia University Shuts Down Amid Student Protests
At Columbia University in New York City, pro-Palestinian protests are intensifying. Some students have been suspended after refusing to vacate the encampment on the western lawn of the Manhattan campus. However, the university didn’t call in the police, leading student protesters to move from the encampment to Hamilton Hall. Hamilton Hall is one of the most academic buildings in the university. The students barricaded themselves inside and draped a banner reading “HIND’S HALL” on the window. They say this picket honors a 5-year-old girl who was killed in Gaza. The campus is now shut down to everyone except for some students living in dorms and some essential faculty members.
Deadly Floods Devastate Kenya
In Kenya, floods have swept through the northwestern town, called Mahiu, bringing tragic news. Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds have been injured. Recent heavy rain, exacerbated by a dam breaking, has led to severe floods. Since March, floods have inundated Kenya multiple times, displacing thousands and killing hundreds.
