Steve Lights the Sky
The Alberta Aurora Chaser in Canada named atmospheric phenomena “Steve.” Steve comes about from the collision between the emitted particles from the Sun and the Earth’s atmosphere. Unlike Aurora, also known as Northern lights, which are red, green, and blue lights, Steve is a purple river of particles with green bands and occurs at lower latitudes.
The Alberta Aurora Chaser borrowed its name from the movie “Over the Hedge” to make this phenomenon less scary.
The First Dolls in HBCU
Brooke Hart Jones loved dolls when she was little. As a young woman, she attended an HBCU. 3 years ago, she looked up a doll to present to her old classmate. A Doll representing an HBCU didn’t exist. She set off on a journey to make it herself during COVID-19 when she was furloughed by the company. The dolls not only have different skin tones and hair textures but also diverse interests, from a majorette to a pre-med girl. Complacency couldn’t hold her back and now everywhere is selling her dolls, including Target, Walmart, and Amazon. She says it’s not just a comforting doll, but also a team to encourage kids to have their dreams and achieve them.
*Vocabularies; latitude, hedge, HBCU, furlough, come about, majorette, pre-med, complacency
