Is the Unprecedented Strike Close to an Agreement?

A 41-day-long strike headlined by UAW is close to reaching an agreement, with a tentative pay raise for Ford workers, initially at 11%, and increasing to 25% over the next 5 years. However, 29,000 workers from Stalentis and GM are on strike, demanding pay raises and benefits. The cost of living, including expenses for housing, food, and healthcare has risen every year, while workers have sacrificed their fair share for the CEOs of these three companies. 450,000 people have been on strike only this year, tripling the number from 2021. Despite these actions, the labor movement is still short of historical peaks. Kaiser Permanente is fielding the largest strike the U.S. healthcare industry has ever seen. Actors and writers are also in a focal strike against being replaced by AI.
While workers are fighting for their due, the rate of union membership has continued to trend downward from 20% to 10% between 1983 and 2022, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
