An enclave, Nagorno-Karabakh is home to 120,000 ethnic Armenians. However, it has been a disputed territory, causing unrest and simmering war between Armenia and Azerbaijan for decades. The more powerful Azerbaijani military is seizing increased territories, and last week, they foresaw the surrender of ethnic Armenian military breakaways in the disputed region. Russia brokered the ceasefire only after an explosion at a gas station inside Nagorno-Karabakh, which resulted in 200 casualties.
Even though the war is abating, horror still threatens ethnic Armenians. They are fleeing the ethnic cleansing, which was staunchly denied, through the Lachin Corridor to Nagorno-Karabakh. The Lachin Corridor is their only way, but there has been a blockade, barricading exodus and international aid.
Last Saturday, the first convoy of humanitarian aid from the Red Cross entered the region. They are carrying out medical evacuation, though thousands have been living off little to no food and fuel for almost a year, and still, aid hasn’t reached out the most of them.
