Afghanistan is facing two things; financial problems and a rapid transformation into new religious rules.
The Taliban conquered the Panjshir Valley, solidifying that they have taken control of all of the country. But the holdout against the Taliban, National Resistance Front, says they’re fighting all over the province.
But the Taliban’s plan of easing the country into a new relationship is already underway. In a meeting called by the Taliban governor are tribal chiefs, village elders, boys, and men, but no women. Outside the capital, the Taliban is part cracking down on keeping women and men apart, part launching charm offensives. They’re laying down and prioritizing Sharia law that led to the amputation of thieves by stoning and hanging in 1990s.
It’s not a concern for Afghans as much as poverty. Businesses are down. In pharmacy, the stock was depleted under the last government. But, the Taliban is prioritizing Sharia law and segregation, claiming an alternate reality and negating these problems. And they believe the Taliban will deliver.
