After the last American plane departed from Afghanistan, the Taliban declared victory over the U.S. It happened the midnight before the 31st of August. When U.S. President Joe Biden announced the withdrawal of the U.S. military forces, he stated the Afghan troops were prepared to defend their country. But, Afghanistan wasn’t considered stable without the American or other allied military forces. In early August, the Afghan government collapsed, and the Taliban took control. The U.S. faced challenges in rescuing Americans and other allies there, but time wasn’t sufficient. 100 to 200 or so American who want to leave are remaining. It’s a troubled ending for the U.S.
Now, another problem concerns people. The last time the Taliban were in control, they imposed a strict interpretation of Islam and oppressively instituted the death penalty for those who didn’t follow it. They also banned TV, music, non-Islamic holidays, and women’s rights. The Islamic militant organization claims they will not be as oppressive this time around. But analysts say they haven't changed.
*Vocabularies; concern, troubled, impose, interpretation, strict interpretation, institute, oppressive, oppressively
