On the heels of the Pentagon meeting, we’re learning the terrible mistake the U.S. made. On August 26th, as the U.S. military was winding down the withdrawal, 170 people were killed by an attack in an airport in Kabul. ISIS-K was suspected of it. Three days after, the U.S. launched drones to destroy a car that was believed to carry bombers and explosives. Even though the CIA warned that children and civilians were in that area, ten civilians were killed, and an aid worker was among them.
The top U.S. General, who oversaw the war in Afghanistan, called it a righteous strike. And he admitted that the civilian had no connection to ISIS-K. He knew the possible casualties from the beginning. The U.S. military had intelligence that the car had the imminent ISIS attack. So, they tracked a 42-year-old aid worker to the compound where he lived, where the tragedy happened. But, the miscommunication added to the intelligence failure led to this tragedy.

Lawmakers are finding out what mistakes were made in the lead-up to this strike and considering paying reparations to the families.
