Landfall is when the center of a hurricane is halfway over the coast. It was a category-4 hurricane. A New Orleans Security Official told people to stock up on enough food and water for at least three days. Louisianans were ordered to leave their home. Schools there and in Mississippi are closed. Hundreds and thousands lost power. The airline canceled all flights at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. New Orleans is 50 miles north of where Hurricane Ida made landfall. The landfall was 16 years to the day after Hurricane Katrina hit this region. It caused the failure of levees, which led off 1500 people to death. Ida wasn’t even classified as a tropical storm last Thursday. Because of the rapid intensification, rescuers are suspended from getting into this area. Rapid Intensification is when a storm makes wind speed 35 mph or greater. In general, a tornado has a lot of shears with different winds by heights, whereas, RI wants no change of wind direction and wind speed. It means it doesn't blow apart. Since it has no shear, it’s seriously dangerous. Take Maria for example. It grew from category 1 to 5 in 15 hours. When you go to bed expecting a tropical storm, and the next day, you see a category 2 on your doorstep.
