The Story of Facebook Founder.-Pt2-2; Facebook Moved from Desktop to Smartphone.

With Sheryl Sandberg at the helm, they made tremendous growth. Facebook opened itself to other companies to work with them. The so-called “Facebook platform” went live and it allowed the users to interact with each other. They focused on the good. But there was a problem; how to handle users’ data? Additionally, when people have the right to publish content, there’s got to be Catch-22. Facebook wasn’t capable of policing them. This became the root of one of the biggest scandals. In 2012, Facebook was preparing for an IPO. At that time, smartphones were rising, and Facebook wasn’t mobile-friendly. Instagram was the most downloaded app in the App Store and Mark bought it with a billion dollars. It was an atypical buying spree though, he believed it was a good investment for the transition of Facebook from desktop to smartphone. One of the employees remember, Mark ordered every employee to bring mocks to his office, or they’d be fired. When the Facebook stock was operational, it face-planted and tanked for 109 days. Down the ride, Mark had an interview at Tech Rich Disrupt. He admitted their stock was disappointing. But he added, he’d keep focusing on mobile. He made the shift. And it turned out to bolster the portfolio of Facebook. In the end, he paid off and the stock increased.
