Zuckerberg agreed to testify before Congress on April 10th, 2018. He made a great effort in prep for it like making a mock hearing room. That was as high stakes as it gets. Then, the historic moment like the way for the tobacco execs felt in 1994 rolled around. There was so much interest, many attendances. But, Zuckerberg was poised and did laps around the people. He delivered calmly and issued an apology for the breach of trust. The hearing was successful to an extent. The questions from senators were disappointing. Those were frankly indicative of the lack of understanding of the general social media system and basic business models. After the testimony, people were expecting regulation for the incidence of breaches. But there wasn’t. It was because Facebook was a goose laying golden eggs, and there was no reason to get rid of it. Facebook is trying to get in front of the impending problem by controlling its data. But, here’s the thing; does making money get in the way of the ultimate goal of connecting the world?
