We Might Not Be Able to Eat Fish Soon.

The Japanese government decided to gradually release more than a million tons of toxic water into the pacific ocean. In 2011, a devastating tsunami and earthquake crippled Fukushima and brought a meltdown. Fishing was prohibited for 6 years ever since. Even after lifting, fishermen have been struggling with their livelihood. Because the government declared to release wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the pacific ocean. They fear that once it seeps into the ocean, it will supposedly damage their reputation. This announcement made a fisherman’s blood boil. He was sad when fishing was off-limits. Again, he was disappointed with the government, as they decided it without his consent. Most of his catch is sent for experiments to check whether dispersing wastewater would harm fish because he’s 40 miles from the nuclear power plant in Fukushima prefecture.
A CNN Correspondent filmed rows and rows of wastewater tanks around the nuclear plant waiting to be released. They are enough to fill 500 Olympic swimming pools. Plant operators said they would dilute wastewater under the world health organization’s clean drinking water standard.
The Prime Minister stated it should be done to decommission the plant. It is considered the best option because the tanks are near capacity. But still, there is low risk. It doesn’t mean safe, but the risk exists.
