Ya-Ya saga encapsulated the diplomatic relationship between the U.S. and China. A video of calling a geriatric panda with sagging skin to come back home was plastered from Beijing to the Big Apple -New York City-. This pandemonium was sparked by anti-American sentiment. A joint study of the U.S. and Chinese scientists showed the problem with her appearance doesn’t indicate her health problem and she had “excellent care.” They added she was suffering from a genetic condition affecting fur and skin condition, but it didn’t affect her health. But the reputational damage is already done, and they couldn’t calm down outrage in China. Only on Wednesday foreign Ministry of China said America took care of her well, which was a half-hearted attempt to dial back the controversy towards the U.S. and the relationship. In the country which is under state media censoring social media, the disinformation that the U.S. neglected their panda is being amplified.
Since the lease of Ya-Ya, which was her household name, expired, she went back to China. People gathered around the flight when she was arriving to catch just a glimpse of the crate where Ya-Ya was in. She spent a month in quarantine at Beijing Zoo, where the feeding frenzy was in full swing.

But here’s a school in San Diego teaching their fifth graders to tackle serious issues; racism, bullying, pollution, global warming, and gun violence, through animations. Currently, 500 students are in this class. Those topics are pretty difficult to deal with in comparison to the staple class. CNN asked how they decided to teach it to them. They said before children face reality, adults had to support them and teach them how to maneuver nuances. Maneuvering nuances are hard, but they didn’t want to put a muzzle on children. So they allowed them to talk through animation. Children got to feel like celebrities as they shared their animations with the world. The animation helped people to stop and listen to what was going on in this world, and perhaps had them offering a potential solution. They felt heard and wanted to continue to explore this worldwide issue. We might be looking at a colossus that will reach world peace.
