The indigenous First Nation has been working on preserving the land, mountain, and wildlife in the beautiful intact solitude of the Great Bear Rainforest. It’s a biodiverse land where
various species are spawning at. There are various species, such as white bears, spirit bears, an abundance of salmon, and wolves. The spirit bear born as the result of recessive genes is one of the vital wildlife in this forest. They had suffered from unsustainable extraction outside interest for a decade. So they decided to reverse the degradation of the wilderness. And this impacted their livelihood and stewardship. In 2000, the community announced a management plan for preserving wildlife aiming at building an economy based on conservation and non-extractive activities. They engaged the provincial government, federal government, and stakeholders and left the document open to collaborate. In 2012, there was a high end. Neighboring First Nation came together to consider banning trophy hunting bears, and they banned hunting grizzly bears following the prohibition of hunting black bears. In 2022, the Marine Protected Area was announced to preserve herring stocks. It’s time to integrate the indigenous and nonindigenous’s strengths. It’s time for reconciliation for the wildlife.
